Salzbruchsteine aus Rotsalz dienen zum Mauern von rustikalen Salzwänden, welche häufig in Salzgrotten gebaut werden, um mittels Hinterleuchtung ein warmes rötliches Salzlicht zu erzeugen. Im Unterschied zu Salzziegeln und Salzfliesen werden Salzbruchsteine rein mineralisch verbunden. Als Mörtel dient zum Beispiel eine Mischung aus Weißzement und Marmorkleber im Verhältnis 3 zu 7.
Salzbruchsteine entstehen direkt nach der Sprengung im Bergwerk. In den Salzbergwerken des pakistanischen Salzgebirges werden sie noch händisch aufgeklaubt und auf die Ladefläche eines Anhängers geladen.
